Positive Quadrant Coordinate Plane: Ordered Pairs, Examples, Chart, and Practice

What Grade 5 geometry covers

Grade 5 geometry often introduces coordinate graphing, ordered pairs, shape classification, and diagrams that help students describe location and movement.

Start with the positive quadrant

Before students work with all four quadrants, they usually learn the first quadrant. In this beginner grid, x and y values are positive, so students move right and up.

Ordered pairs must be read in order

An ordered pair is written as (x, y). The x-coordinate comes first and tells the right movement. The y-coordinate comes second and tells the upward movement.
